When a child develops a life-threatening illness, family life centers around treatment and recovery. The financial and emotional drain on family and child are severe, and it's easy for hope to fade. Enter Children's Wishes.
While attending the Charity Revolution fundraiser for Children's Wishes I had the opportunity to meet the Executive Director, Dana. I was impressed by her enthusiasm for her work.
Children's Wishes's mission statement is "By granting the wishes of children with life-threatening medical illnesses, we create the opportunity for them to believe in magic and infuse hope and happiness into their lives."
Since its founding in April, 2009, they have granted 11 wishes for children, including shopping sprees, bedroom makeovers, special needs computers and trips to Disney World.
Kids ages 2-1/2 to 18 with life-threatening illnesses are eligible, after being qualified by their doctor. The only limit on wishes is doctor's approval and CW's availability of funds, though the average cost is $6,500.
You can see a list of children waiting for wishes on their site and read their stories.
Children's Wishes welcomes donations as well as volunteers.
