Dining ~ Calvitto's Pizza & Bakery ~ Narragansett

Calvitto's Pizza & Bakery

Narragansett, Rhode Island

On our way to the beach recently, we stopped at Calvitto's for pizza. It's not your perfect beach food, but it's what we were in the mood for.

The interior was surprisingly spacious and attractively designed.

Unfortunately, the service was unenthusiastic. Bear ordered a sandwich, which arrived quickly, and was delicious. Caitlin and I shared a plain pizza, which took somewhere around 45 minutes to prepare. I could have stayed home and ordered delivery pizza, and it would have arrived more quickly. In fact, Bear had finished her sandwich (with my help) long before our plain pizza arrived.

The young lady behind the counter offered a halfhearted apology for the delay of the pizza, and might have let me leave without paying for it if I hadn't reminded her. We waited until we got to the beach to try the pizza, and were unimpressed. It wasn't bad, but it was certainly not worth the wait.

After our visit, I read an old issue of Rhode Island Monthly, which named Calvitto's as having some of the best pizza strips in Rhode Island. Maybe we should have tried those, instead. They were plentiful, in both red and white sauce.
