Artist's name: Rebecca Nightingale
Shop name: Cat of Mine

1. Tell us about your work
I create highly detailed sculptures of cats in the form of jewelry, utility items, figurines and Christmas ornaments for the cat lovers out there. I work in different waxes and have manufacturing partners, who cast them into sterling silver, bronze, and lead free pewter. I have some jewelry items that are offered personalized with custom names hand printed on the waxes before they are cast in sterling silver.

2. How did you come to be a professional artist/crafter/designer?
After getting a BFA in Sculpture at Maine College of Art in Portland, ME, I wandered down to RI. Looking for employment, I got a job designing high-end costume jewelry at Swarovski, Ltd, for 6 years.

I had to get back to sculpting, so I became a self-employed model maker and have been for 28 years. I've had clients such as Hasbro, Lenox Giftware, The Franklin Mint, and even Swarovski, ltd.

With the popularity of computer assisted model making, I needed a new way of making a living. I decided to focus on one of the things I love, which is cats! I started an Etsy store selling these lovingly sculpted cats.

3. Where do you draw your inspiration?
I have found Pinterest to be a wealth of inspiration for cute, funny, and beautiful cats and kittens daily!

4. What's your favorite item to create?
I'd have to say the Christmas ornaments have been the most fun to create. I love getting lost in the little kitten vignettes!

5. What's your best seller?
My little furry Sterling Silver Maine Coon Kitten II Charm.

6. How long have you been in Rhode Island?
36 years. I came and stayed through thick and thin!

7. What do you {heart} about Rhode Island?
The accessibility of so many other artists and artisans! All my manufacturing partners are here. People, who not only make the final product, but have been open hearted and helped me along on my journey with advice and opportunity.

8. Favorite place to take out-of-towners?
Almost anywhere. There's so much to be interested in and beauty to see!

9. Please include anything else you'd like to add:
I appreciate the opportunity to tell of my new small business, Cat of Mine. Thank you for including me.
