1. Tell us about your work
VsJade Designs creates one of a kind handcrafted jewelry using healing crystals, local shells, and local stones found on the shores of Rhode Island. The healing properties of the elements we use promote physical and mental healing, inspire creativity, and balance various energies. We never make the same item twice!

2. Is there a story behind the name of your business?
The name of our business is a combination of the initials of our first name, combined with our favorite gemstone.

3. How did you come to be a professional artist/crafter/designer?
We started our Etsy.com page a little over a year ago. Being best friends, broke college students, and artists, we decided to turn our passion for creating and healing into wearable works of art. We spend a lot of time working in the studio creating, collaborating, and making MANY mistakes, all of which make our business more successful day by day.

4. Where do you draw your inspiration?
We draw our inspiration from the gemstones themselves. Often times we look at the shape, colors, and lines within the stones themselves to turn the stones into works of art.

5. What’s your favorite item to create?
Sonja: I LOVE wire wrapping rings and individual stones. Victoria: I don’t have a favorite, but if I had to choose it would probably be bracelets or earrings.

6. What’s your best seller?
Probably our Dream Catcher necklaces! Each is made of one of a kind wire wrapped gemstones and turned into a dream catcher with personalized charms!

7. How long have you been in Rhode Island?
Sonja: Born and raised in Rhode Island!
Victoria: I moved to Rhode Island about ten years ago.

8. What do you {heart} about Rhode Island?
Sonja: Oh where to start.... the beaches definitely! Especially taking the ferry to the Block Island beaches.
Victoria: Definitely the beaches. There is so much to do that fits everyone. From bird watching or canoeing, to shopping in cute little shops, to just relaxing on the beach. Rhode Island has a little bit to offer for every kind of person.

9. Favorite place to take out-of-towners?
Sonja: Definitely the Umbrella Factory in Charlestown!
Victoria: It’s hard to choose. Any of the beaches are great, but it’s also fun going into Providence (especially during the summer months) and checking out one of the cool festivals or events they have going on. Water Fire is a must for any out-of-towner.

10. Any advice for new/wannabe makers?
Just do it! Make stuff, make stuff, make stuff. The more risks take and mistakes you make, the more you will grow, your art will grow, and your business will grow. Never lose focus on your art. This can be tricky when managing a business, but always remember that it is your ART and your MESSAGE that makes you unique. Ultimately, that is what will make your customers want to come back for more!
