1. Tell us about your work
I always have a tough time describing my work, I'd say it's an eclectic mix of pop culture , color , humor, sparkle , mixed medias, and fun. Most artist have a deeper message or meaning to their work which I sometimes do in certain gallery pieces or photography, but I mostly like it to be a fun visual escape from all the BS going on in the world.

2. Is there a story behind the name of your business?
The name was actually an accident! I signed up for Etsy using my personal Instagram name ( @wildworldofak ) and meant to change the name of the shop, but it grew pretty quickly and the name just kind of stuck! I wish I had a better story behind the name

3. How did you come to be a professional artist/crafter/designer?
I've always had the creative artistic aspect since I was a little kid, but to take it to the professional level I focused a lot on business courses in school and prior retail work experience to help grow my business. A lot of people think that you can just print some shirts and put them online and have an instantly successful business , but that's not the case. You need to market, photograph, advertise, come up with new ideas and products, and maintain good relations with customers which takes time.

4. Where do you draw your inspiration?
I get inspired by many things, In particular I draw a lot of my inspiration from my childhood and pop culture. I like a wide variety of things ranging from WWE wrestling to Sailor Moon , so inspiration really comes from a lot of my random interests.

5. What’s your favorite item to create?
My newest item! I love making new things whether it be jewelry, paintings, clothing, etc. The mermaids sell the best, but sometimes I get tired of making the same thing over and over again. When I am working on something new I dive right into it and can't stop until I am finished!

6. What’s your best seller?
The Biggie Mermaid design is my best seller , followed by the Tupac mermaid design. The crying drake mermaid comes in a close third.

7. How long have you been in Rhode Island?
I have been in Rhode Island my whole life! I grew up in East Providence and went to college at Salve Regina in Newport. I wish I went elsewhere for college , but at least the location was beautiful

8. What do you {heart} about Rhode Island?
I love being close to the ocean, I feel like it's impossible to have a bad day when you are at the beach. I also love how much there is to do packed in a tiny state, you can go from city to ocean in 40 minutes which is awesome.

9. Favorite place to take out-of-towners?
My favorite place is a secret beach tucked away on ocean drive in Newport,I'd tell you more details about where it is located but I don't want it getting flooded with tourists! :)

10. Any advice for new/wannabe makers?
Go with your gut and don't let anyone talk you out of something you truly believe in. In school my professors always were pushing me to work for a 9-5 company when I graduated, but I knew that working a 9-5 just wasn't for me. They didn't really take seriously the idea of starting an independent business, especially based off something as silly as rapper mermaids. But after a lot of "No's" and eye rolls I still went ahead and saved up the money to make my first batch of shirts, and the rest is history. If you truly want something and you invest your time, effort, money and energy into that it will eventually pay off.
