1. Tell us about your work.
I am primarily a watercolorist creating whimsical, joyful paintings of various animals perfect for children and all ages for that matter. A number of my watercolor paintings evoke various emotions and words of inspiration often revolving around family, motherhood and parenthood as family is such a strong bond and it is so important to me. Apart from my watercolor paintings, my secondary medium is oil. My oil paintings take on a completely different style than my watercolors of realism. These paintings depict nautical and architectural scenes from local Rhode Island and Cape Cod. A number of my limited edition prints of these oil paintings are offered on my Etsy s…

1. Tell us about your work
I adore Pinterest and Etsy, folks who may have never tapped into their artistic, crafty, passionate side finally expressing themselves. I especially love ‘Pinterest Fails’ and have certainly had a few of my own. If you end up on my Pinterest site, you’ll see some of my Pinterest wins, the ‘fails’ don’t make it online.

My work is: Simple, clean designs for home, sharing, & gifting.

2. Is there a story behind the name of your business?
I’m from England. I was in an awesome job, when I got offered a full-scholarship to a Master’s program at the University of Rhode Island. With all intent to return to my coveted work, with International Student Recruitment, I got stuck into the books, learning all about ‘College Student Personnel’ (Higher Ed, Admin stuff). Then… I fell in …

Dining~ Federal Hill Pizza ~ Providence

Federal Hill Pizza
in the former Castle Theater

Providence, Rhode Island

Sometimes my timing just stinks.

Way back in October of 2016, I had the awesome opportunity to visit with Chef William "Billy" Manzo, Jr. He took me on a tour of the Castle Theater, which Chef Billy and his wife Christine were in the process of restoring and converting  the former Castle Theater to the second location for their Federal Hill Pizza. The first location is in Warren.

Then....stuff happened...

The next thing I know, Federal Hill Pizza is open for business and I have yet to write a post about the restoration process. *sigh*

That didn't stop me from taking the family out for dinner.

Our dinner started with mac and cheese croquettes and rice balls with pancetta and mozzarella.

Our pizzas included a plain cheese, Owner's Favorite (fresh mozzarella, red sauce, prosciutto, mushrooms, goat cheese and basil cooked well-done), and a pepperoni and meatball p…

1. Tell us about your work
I am a Providence-based illustrator, muralist, and screen printer. I work out of the Nicholson File studio complex, which is a wonderful community of wing nut artists of all types. My work life has a tremendous amount of variety. In a month, I'll be painting a commissioned mural on the exterior of the Dean Hotel. In June, I'll be leading an ambitious world building exercise in Buffalo where the environments are created entirely from painter's tape. In the meantime, I've been designing and printing custom shirts for various clients around town. I also print and sell my own work -- on etsy and elsewhere. I'm eager to get to work on some new paper and ceramic tile prints this Spring.

Events ~ RENT ~ Providence

Image
The 20th anniversary tour of RENT is at Providence Performing Arts Center until April 9. I saw it yesterday, and it was amazing.

If you're not familiar, RENT is an adaptation of Puccini's opera, La Boheme. It follows seven artists over the course of a year, through their ups, downs, lives, and loves. The story tackles tough issues like homelessness, sexuality and AIDS.

Mark, a struggling documentary filmmaker, lives with his friend Roger, a songwriter/guitarist, on the top floor of a former music printing factory in the East Village of New York City. Mark is the almost-Everyman, an observer and occasional Greek chorus to the audience. Roger, newly returned from rehab, is struggling with AIDS and addiction. He's sullen, angry and withdrawn, as actor Kaleb Wells plays him. It's a departure from Adam Pascal's drama queen from the original Broadway cast, and the only major change I noticed.

The two men are told by the building's owner, former friend and roommate Be…

1. Tell us about your work
My work is almost exclusively nature-inspired. I believe that the most beautiful images come from the natural world.

2. Is there a story behind the name of your business?
My initials work well (in a rhyming sense) with the word "photography," so it seemed the obvious choice at the time. I'm currenty in the midst of building a personal website called Chestnut Moon Photography, though. The name comes from one of my "best sellers."

3. How did you come to be a professional artist/crafter/designer?
I started using the camera to dialogue with the environment around me, and the next thing I knew, I was exhibiting and selling my work on a fairly frequent basis.

4. Where do you draw your inspiration?
Nature

5. What’s your favorite item to create?
Photographic images.

6. What’s your best seller?
