1. Tell us about your work
Light is it strongest when it is about to die, pouring over us in a warm and comforting embrace. Hues fading into shades and beams of radiance glisten in its last moments of glory. Red in its most pure and primary form resembles that of a dying sun, a sun providing that of a warm and reassuring notion that it will return. My work captures that single expression or motion, simplified to highlight that moment in time, threatened by the realization that the moment will end, yet excited by the prospect that it can be reinvented. The intention is not to mourn the loss, but to embrace the possibilities.

2. Is there a story behind the name of your business?
For what ever reason people seem to mix up my name. I don't see how. There's not much to it, but they do. So, I've taken a song from a game that I'm very fond of, one I've listened to as inspira…

1. Tell us about your work:
My work is 3-dimensional, mixed media. I hand collect Sea Glass from all over the Rhode Island shoreline at all of my “secret” spots. I paint sometimes with acrylic and sometimes with watercolor on 16x20, 9x12, and 5x7 canvasses. I then adhere my Sea Glass in all of its glorious state (I have never tumbled one piece!) to create one of a kind Sea Glass Mermaids. Each piece has its very own saying on the back of the canvas conveying my thought for that particular Mermaid.

2. Is there a story behind the name of your business?
All of my Sea Glass is from Rhode Island and my maiden name is Fish so I am the “RI Mermaid!”

3. How did you come to be a professional artist/crafter/designer?
I believe I have quite a few angels around me that have guided me into doing something I really love and I have…

1. Tell us about your work
I design and handcraft jewelry, incorporating sterling silver with semi-precious
stones and cultured pearls. My style gives a nod to the past, but is thoroughly
modern. It is sought out by those that love delicate, evolving, handcrafted jewels.

2. Is there a story behind the name of your business?
Well, it's pretty self explanatory! Honestly, I did not want to have to get a fictitious name!

3. How did you come to be a professional artist/crafter/designer?
I handcrafted jewelry as a hobby and gave it to my six sisters for
Christmas one year. Friends began to purchase it as well, and encouraged me by hosting home shows. When I began to manage a fine arts and craft gallery in Santa Cruz, California, I was inspired by the many artists and cre…

1. Tell us about your work
My work involves combining reclaimed wood and metal elements and parts from ubiquitous items found everywhere (like salt and pepper shakers, car parts, mixing bowls, plumbing parts) and presents them in a way that elevates them to something greater than they were, hopefully.

2. Is there a story behind the name of your business?
"Flat Earth" comes from the Flat Earth Society, a group who refused to acknowledge the reality that the Earth is a sphere and not flat. That myopic kind of mentality is evident today in products like gas-guzzling cars and the glut of other consumer products that are clearly a bad idea and bad for us/the environment. So I figured "hey, here's your car engine, disassembled and reconfigured as a lamp and some tables." I try to use items that I see as being no longer useful for their origina…

Sights ~ Coggswell Tower and Jenks Park ~ Central Falls

Image
Jenks Park
Central Falls, Rhode Island

Jenks Park is the only large park in the very small city of Central Falls. The land was a gift from Alvin Jenks, a descendent of the industrialist Cpt. Stephen Jenks.

It's a nice parcel of green space right next to Central Falls City Hall, and has paths, a small playground and a great big hill with a clock tower.

That's a view of City Hall, to the left of the tree.

Though the land and park were donated in 1890, and built by Pawtucket architect Albert Humes, the tower and its supporting barrel vault were built in 1904. The funds were bequeathed by Caroline Cogswell, a former resident who had moved to what's now Silicone Valley with her husband, a dentist.

I wasn't able to learn whether it was her idea or someone else's to build a clock tower, but the fact is, it's an impressive one, standing 70 feet tall. At the elevation where it stands, it's probably visible around most of the city (or was when it was built).

The elev…

1. Tell us about your work:
I am an author and artist. I have self-published 3 books in the last year, "The Last Daughter of Lilith" (a Fantasy novel in the lines of "Harry Potter"), "Coming Undone" (a non-fiction piece) and "Menagerie Of The Weird" (a collection of short horror and sci-fi stories that ALL take place in Rhode Island!). I also make tote bags from t-shirts as well as photography and some bead work. My main passion is photography and being an author!

2. Is there a story behind the name of your business?
A silly one! My nickname of Juiceica came about one day when a friend kept saying my name (Jessica) as Juice. It stuck and so I named my business "Juicey Creative Works" to reflect that nickname.

3. How did you come to be a professional artist/crafter/designer?
As luck would have it, I…
