Documentary on West Warwick seeks local experts

Director of the independent documentary film, Mill Town, is taping interviews.

West Warwick, RI – April 2, 2015 – Independent film director Genevieve Belcher is seeking people who are interested in doing on-camera interviews. Currently she needs local historians familiar with seventeenth, eighteenth, and nineteenth century Kent County history and an expert in the field of economics.

She will also interview citizens who can recall personal experiences from more recent history, especially mid-twentieth century. The personal interviews will be conducted in the fall.

Mill Town covers the history of the town of West Warwick, Rhode Island, beginning in the seventeenth century when Samuel Gorton and his followers settled a colony in present day Kent County. This film recounts the struggles and triumphs of the citizens that settled and built this small yet impactful mill town.

In telling West Warwick’s story, this documentary seeks to encourage its audience to learn from the past, develop an appreciation for our history and what it took to make this town, motivate the audience to make changes, motivate them to get more involved in local government, and raise awareness of the importance
of supporting local businesses.


Genevieve Belcher is a graduate of New England Institute of Technology’s Video and Audio Production program. She did her internship at WLWC-TV (CW 28/ where she created one-minute features for their website and broadcast. In her most recent venture, Genevieve teamed up with Director Patti Cassidy in producing Uproar in Pawtucket: The Story of Fanny the Elephant. Through her filmmaking, Genevieve strives to build community, motivate change, and advocate for causes she believes in.
