1. Tell us about your work.
I work as a digital photographer, focusing on coastal beauty and affinity through fresh and approachable imagery of sailing and coastal communities. I constantly work to give viewers a transportive experience, drawing them into a world defined and surrounded by sandy beaches and salty ocean waters! Most of my work features sailing photography in the summer months, junior sailors, regattas, etc., and coastal fine art seascapes in the off-season.

2. How did you come to be a professional artist/crafter?
I come from a sailing family, so naturally I learned to sail when I was very young. I became interested in photography during high school, first using my mom's old Canon AE-1 35mm camera at home and then taking a couple high school classes in both darkroom & digital photography. I went to school at Fitchburg State in Massachusetts and graduated with a degree in photography but being landlocked for four years left me missing the ocean. So I moved back to Rhode Island after graduation and blended my love of photography and the ocean into a fusion of nautical and fine art photography.

3. Where do you draw your inspiration?
I draw inspiration from years of coastal living spent on and by the water. It's the quiet beaches, crashing waves and scenes of endless blue that I never get tired of photographing. But in summer it's all about watching other young kids fall in love with the ocean as they learn to sail, plus the high action sailing events and regattas.

4. What's your favorite item to make?
I love creating quiet long exposure seascapes. It requires attention to weather and tide, sun and moon movements, and just forces me to slow down for a composition. When it comes to actual products, I've always had an affinity for panoramic canvases. I love white framed fine art prints, but something about a big and bright panoramic canvas of a coastal scene just makes you feel like you're looking through a window out across the ocean.

5. What's your best seller?
My best seller is an image from a couple years ago that was one of my first seascapes. It features the Narragansett Towers with some beach in the foreground, lit up by orange street lamps, and beautiful blue and purple tones from the evening sky.

6. How long have you lived in Rhode Island?
I've lived in Rhode Island all my life

7. What do you {heart} about Rhody?
I love Rhode Island's coastal diversity. There's sandy beaches great for sunbathing and beachcombing, coves and reed covered marshland that are teeming with wildlife, rocky beaches and cliffs that make for a feeling of adventure, and tidepools full of marine diversity. There's always something to photograph and for having lived here all my life, there's always areas to explore!

8. Please put in anything you'd like to add:
I offer Coastal Fine Art, Sailing Photography, as well as a wide range of photographic services including private instruction. I will be giving a lecture on Feb 20th hosted at the Wickford Yacht Club about photographing the sport of sailing (More details: www.facebook.com/events/625611657496463/). I also have a monthly email newsletter that brings new work, announcements, events, and coupons right to your mailbox. You can sign up at dm-mailinglist.com/subscribe?f=dc8e5c4e!
