Dining ~ U-Melt ~ Providence

129 Weybosset St.
Providence, Rhode Island

There was quite a bit of hoopla when U-Melt opened its Providence location this past summer, and I took Bear and D to check it out.

We were happy to see their commitment to using local ingredients, sourced right on the distance board up front.

counter and menu

They offer a good variety of sandwiches, plus, of course, you can build your own.

D, unsurprisingly, just wanted a regular grilled cheese (the Classic). Bear went for The BBQ Pork (cheddar cheese, BBQ pulled pork, roasted jalapeƱos, on white bread), and I ordered the Vermonster (cheddar cheese, maple glazed bacon, caramelized onions, on marble rye bread). We were all very happy with our sandwiches, and with the service, which was friendly and casual.

The decor is also casual and fun, with drippy orange and turquoise. It almost reminded me of HoJo, but not quite.

making a white trash

After we'd finished our sandwiches, we took home a "White Trash" (mac ‘n cheese, cheddar cheese, BBQ pulled pork, on thick cut sourdough). It made dinner for both me and Bear, and was tasty combo carbo comfort. We took my middle daughter, her husband and three kids there when they visited, and it was a huge hit.

There's something "just right" about grilled cheese, and U-Melt has nailed it.
