1. Tell us about your work:
Hi! My name is Muffy Brandt. I make hand dyed and hand printed clothing for adults and kids. I like bold patterns and bright or high contrast colors which I use to make playful pieces for every day.

2. How did you come to be a professional artist/crafter/designer?
I have loved making art and crafts my entire life. At RISD I majored in Painting and Film, but took lots of textiles electives and knit and sewed myself clothing in my free time. It became clear I loved fashion and I loved the dyeing, sewing, and other processes of textiles.

I began sewing tote bags that I sold at Farmer's Markets. My brand evolved and now I sell online via Etsy and to shops all over the US, and to One in Japan.

3. Where do you draw your inspiration?
I think that my inspiration comes from all over the place. I love color in natural and man made things, but this time of year the flowers and fruits and veggies are out of sight! I love to explore textile and fashion from around the world. I am particularly drawn to the Silk Road and hand dyed textiles like Ikat and Kilim weaving, as well as Middle Eastern tile designs.

4. What’s your favorite item to create?
I love to make pieces that I dream up to have in my own closet, I really love making my gradient leggings since the utilize dye and print together in a beautiful way. I am also very fond of the Egyptian Hieroglyph and Composition Notebook prints, their playfulness makes them fun to create.

5. What’s your best seller?
It really varies by season. Up until recently my gradient leggings were my top seller, but with this summer's heat crop tops, tank tops, and bike shorts are catching up.

6. How long have you been in Rhode Island?
I moved to Providence in 1999 from Pittsburgh,PA to attend the Rhode island School of Design. At this point I feel like a local.

7. What do you {heart} about Rhode Island?
There is so much to love about Rhode Island! I love the outdoors here, the woods and beaches are like nowhere else, and because it is Rhode Island and tiny I can go all over the state all of the time. I also love the sea food and local art, craft, and music creativity. It is a great place to live.

8. Please include anything else you’d like to add:
Thank you so much for contacting me, keep up your great blog!
