2. How did you come to be a professional artist/crafter?
Gail started to make jewelry and collages in high school. Her art teacher had been a major influence in promoting her love of art and contributing to her current profession and passion. After graduating from RISD, design concentration in precious metals and sculpture, Gail bridged her design talent and artistry in 1989 by founding Ahlers Designs, a company dedicated to her passion of bringing joy into people’s lives.

WBENC-certified female business owner, and an active member of Rhode Island’s small business community. Her affiliations include RISD Alumni Association, The Greater Boston Business Council (GBBC), Leading Women, and The Hive Archive.

3. Where do you draw your inspiration?
Gail has looked to the beauty of surrounding nature and the virtual world of dreamscape to help stimulate the imagination and influence her original designs.

4. What’s your favorite item to make?
Gail's personal motto is to create joy. So, designing and creating her unique sculptures from reclaimed, recycled, and sustainable materials contributes joy double time. Not only does her art transform into joy for the recipient and contributor, but by creating through green innovation, she provides an eco-joy that resonates with sound satisfaction for our environment.

5. What’s your best seller?
Pewter cast Pocket Angels and tokens are, to date, Ahlers Designs most treasured items.

6. How long have you been in Rhode Island?
Since 1981

7. What do you {heart} about Rhode Island?
The diversity of culture, the food (Gail is a die hard Foodie), and the art scene.

8. Please include anything else you’d like to add:
Gail came to Rhode Island to attend the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD), and never left. The fabulous people and art scene of RI embraced her heart and soul. Her home is in Rhode Island.
