Across the office, I can hear my boss listening to WPRO, so I had a general idea that there was a level of unhappiness with Governor Chafee's decision to refer to the conifer currently occupying the rotunda of the State House as a "holiday tree." Even so, I was surprised last night when my friend from Chicago remarked yesterday, "Well, your governor really stepped in it."
Me: ...what?
Her: "If it's got lights, ornaments and is a pine tree in December, it's a Christmas tree!"
Me: ...okay...
We celebrate Christmas at Chez Boliyou, but I just can't get worked up about what someone else calls the tree at the State House. Even if he is the governor.
Nevertheless, John Stewart was ready with his biting, yet cogent commentary, as above (warning SNSFW: language).
All of which is to say, Rhode Island made the national news this week.
